Chapter Seventeen
âYOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS, Josh. Angels donât just show up like that!â
âMaybe not, but itâs the guy in my sketch. Thereâs no doubt about it.â
âJust when I think that things are going back to a normal relationship, you spring something like this on me! Please donât do that. I trust you, but this could change everything.â
She sat in the modelâs chair, and Josh leaned his back against the wall.
âI had to tell you. Not telling you would be lying to you. Please, hang in there with me. I promise to be open and frank, and true. If you donât like me this way, you can choose to say so. You said you say whatâs on your mind, and I do the same. Iâm truthful, but youâll have to come to that conclusion on your own. And talking to your dad sounds like a good plan.â
They both remained silent. Not even Max stirred, only looking at the two of them from where he lay.
Elizabeth broke the silence. âI might as well tell you this, Iâve prayed for you since you showed up. I wouldnât be surprised if my dad has too, but maybe for different reasons. My mom, too, for that matter.â
âCyndi Marlboro said I should get used to people praying for me. I didnât take her too seriously, but I guess she was right. Do angels usually show up when you pray?â
âThis would be the first. At least as far as I know.â
âWhatâs that supposed to mean? Angels show up without you knowing? Trust me, if this guy Arnon had shown up, you would remember him.â
âNo wings and no halo.â
âRight. He just appears out of nowhere and vanishes into I donât know where. He used the door last time he came.â
âNo car?â
âNopeâ
âYou saw him walking away? Where did he go?â
âNo, I didnât see him leave the property. He went out of the door and vanished before I could see where he went. And no, he didnât bring a car or come in a taxi. I would have heard either. Itâs quiet out here.â
âI believe that you believe it, but Iâm stunned.â
âAnd besides that, as I said, he knows stuffânot just facts, but he implies he knows the purposes and meaning of things. He says I was meant to be here, but that I have a choice to walk away if I want.â
âPlease donât.â She stepped close to him and placed her hands on his shoulders. âAre you scared?â
âYes, I was at first. Iâm sure Arnon doesnât intend any harm, and I donât want to leave. I donât want to leave you.â He kissed her on the forehead.
She wrapped her arms around him and held him. The warmth of her up against him was overwhelming. Elizabeth turned her face up to him as Josh bent his head and kissed her on the lips. She returned the kiss holding him tighter. Her kiss was more wonderful than anything he could have anticipated. Her lips were softer and more inviting than heâd ever imagined possible.
